From here, we swap our comfortable road vehicle for a rugged 4x4—the only real way to venture deep into the desert. As we cruise over dusty tracks and golden sands, we let the mesmerizing sounds of Tinariwen, a band of Tuareg musicians, fill the vehicle. Their desert blues echo the soul of the Sahara: rhythmic, raw, and full of longing.
